The MacDowell Era > MacDowell Commemorative Exhibition
Edward MacDowell Commemorative Exhibition
Columbia University, April 27, 1938
Columbia University Archives, Rare Book and Manuscript Library
Columbia wrote an ironic footnote to the MacDowell story when it mounted an exhibition in the Low Library Rotunda in 1938, celebrating the composer's life and work. It was Nicholas Murray Butler himself, still at Columbia's helm, who presided over the event, with MacDowell's widow, Marian Nevins MacDowell, present as guest of honor. She is shown with President Butler in the New York Herald Tribune clipping of April 28, 1938, above.
