Rare Book and Manuscript Library
Within the Jewish library, some books were universal, regardless of geographic location or religious rite. Nathan ben Jeḥiel of Rome's Sefer ha-arukh was one such work. A lexicon of Talmudic and Midrashic terms, it was a critical reference work for anyone studying the Talmud. This manuscript, written in a distinctively Middle Eastern hand, was copied from a manuscript dated 1154, only 54 years after Nathan ben Jeḥiel's death.
