Rare Book and manuscript Library
The Dutch Semitic scholar David Mill (1692-1756) built a model of Solomon's Temple which went on display in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from 1748-1757. This book documents the visitors who came to view the exhibit. The right-hand page here shows a Dutch poem exclaiming the glories of the model and of Mill himself. Both Jews and Christians maintained a fascination with the past and future iterations of the Holy Temple of the Jews in Jerusalem. In addition to this model by Mill, several other models were known to have been made from the 17th century onward.
Gift of Congregation Temple Emanu-El, 1892.
