Writing to Pulitzer’s long-time personal secretary, C. W. McMurran wrote: “There never will be another Joseph Pulitzer, nor one so truly great,” adding in pen below, “I have never seen so many newspaper men together in New York or anywhere and wish you would say this to the family as were in attendance at the funeral.”
