From 17 August 1945 Letter to Parents: "Today Joe [Passantino] and I pulled the greatest photographic tour de force of all time. We had a parade of several thousand soldiers put on just so we could have it photographed. [...] It was the Victory Parade in Liuchow, China. [...] We wanted the troops to parade with the ruined city in the background and everything worked out wonderfully. The rain stopped, the sun came out and we had the parade. Some of the colonels and majors were a little irritated that two lieutenants were making them walk for two hours in a broiling sun."
