"It seems that some people doubt whether or not the Chinese soldiers fight the Japs, so they urgently wanted pictorial proof. [...] If our film shows what we saw then the whole world can know that the Chinese soldiers will fight, even against tremoundous odds. [...] The courage of the Chinese soldier is tremendous and it seems that the only thing that will frighten them is the thought that an American might get hurt, so they take good care of us" (6 May 1945 Letter to Parents).
