Wounded Man with Figure in Foreground, Barney Rosset; Kiangkoa, April 1945.

Wounded Chinese Soldiers (57th Regiment, 19th Division) Being Treated by First Aid Men, Barney Rosset; Kiangkoa, April 1945.
Despite his numerous reassurances to his parents and the relative protection he experienced as an army photographer, Barney Rosset was nonetheless clearly documenting danger, destruction, and the violence of war. In an early letter dated December 19, 1944, Rosset comments that with this assignment "you may feel at last that you might become part of the war," a goal that later seems fulfilled as he recounts: "My outfit is the only ground forces photo outfit in China and the pictures that we take will be the only historical record in existence when this thing is over" (letter of 8 June 1845).
