Tunnel Books > Venice
From the same series as Paris (2006), Venice: Piazza San Marco (2010) is a tunnel book depicting one of Laura Davidson's favorite city views. Davidson turned prints of her paintings of the Piazza San Marco into paper cut-outs, then assembled these into a sequence of frames. A map of Venice forms the backdrop to the resulting perspective view of the Piazza. Avery's copy of this book is number 71 in an edition of 500; it was delivered in an envelope with a hand-painted stamp of Venice created by Davidson. Although Avery has a number of artist's books--that is, artworks that take the form of a book--there are many others in the Graphic Arts Collection of Columbia's Rare Book and Manuscript Library in Butler.
