Tunnel Books > Paris
Paris (2006) is a tunnel book, another name for a peep show, created by Laura Davidson. An artist based in Boston, Davidson often references architecture in her works and uses the book as an experimental form. Paris is one in a series of books by Davidson that incorporate old maps and travel guides. Here, the buildings of Paris as seen from the top of the Institut du Monde Arabe were painted on pages of Les Guides Bleus from 1952. These images were then offset printed and assembled by hand to create the perspective view. Paris was printed in a limited edition of 500 copies, of which Avery's is number 397. The copy arrived in a paper envelope with a hand-painted stamp of Paris.
