Throughout East Asia a sixtieth birthday is held as particularly special, because it represents a full cycle of the lunisolar calendar.  It is regarded as a sort of rebirth.

This picture shows a party in celebration of C.V. Starr's sixtieth birthday on October 15th 1952, in Hong Kong, where a huge crowd gathered in his honor.
