Group Portraits
Highlands of the Hudson Portraits
Nathaniel Fish Moore resigned from the Columbia Presidency in 1849 and from the Board of Trustees in 1851. After some more years of travel, he spent most of his time at his brother's, William Moore, estate on Highlands of the Hudson. During this time, Moore continued to pursue his interest in photography. In this series of prints, Moore goes beyond the earlier individual portraits and captures group portraits of family members. Most of these photographs are taken with the subjects sitting on the same porch by the same column.
Two Women and a Man
This series of photographs captures the same two women, with their decorated bonnets, and a man wearing a top hat in various parts of the outside of the house. The women usually appear on the left side of the image, with the man appearing on the right. The subjects must have posed patiently over and over again for the avid photographer.
