Decks of Cards > Good Luck: A New York Card Game
This deck of cards encased in a leather pouch advertises itself as a "Souvenir of New York" and wishes its owner "Good Luck." The cards within feature views of major New York landmarks, many of which are attributed to the firm of A. Loeffler, a prominent turn-of-the-century photographer.
Most of the subjects depicted on the cards are classic Manhattan buildings, such as the Knickerbocker Hotel, Grand Central Station, and the Woolworth Building. Scenes of lost New York include Penn Station and an elevated railroad at 110th Street. A view of Morningside Heights shows the Columbia Campus before the construction of Avery Library. There are also images of two ships, the Steamship Commonwealth and the S.S. Imperator.
