Collaborations > Some of these Daze
This book combines ink drawings reproduced in silkscreen by Mimi Gross with a text by Charles Bernstein describing the events immediately following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City. Gross and Bernstein produced their work in the days following 9/11 independently, and only later decided to collaborate, working together to choose a selection of image and text to go into the book. The original cover art for Some of These Daze β like the original drawings β was produced in black ink on white paper. Bernstein and Gross decided to invert the black and white for the book.
Speaking to the interplay between text and writing, Bernstein explains that βIn this work, the words are a kind of drawing and the drawing is a form of writing. This is not only because of the words embedded into some of the pictures, or the way that cross-hatching often evokes letters, but also because the combined effect of the words and pictures enlist the lines into a pictogrammatic space.β Edition of 75.
