Charles Darwin, On the Origin of Species

New York: D. Appleton & Co., 1860
Columbia RBML QH 365. 02 1860a

This early edition of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species (the first edition of this title appeared in London in 1859) includes three epigrams that assert the validity of inquiry into the natural world and thus justify his observations and conclusions. RBML also holds one page of Darwin's manuscript for On the Origin of Species in the Herter Papers. RBML holdings also include early editions of Darwin’s The Zoology of the voyage of H. M. S. Beagle (London: H. Colburn, 1839).
