Early/Old Yiddish > Yiddish King Arthur

Jüdischer Geschicht-Roman, von dem grossen König Arturo in Engelland, und dem tapffern Helden Wieduwilt.

Königsberg, 1699

B893.1 W12

Judaized versions of the King Arthur story date back to the thirteenth century, and were written in both Hebrew and Yiddish.  A major printed Yiddish edition was produced in Amsterdam in 1671, and the book was printed many times over the next hundred years.  The edition shown here was produced by Johann Christoph Wagenseil, who transliterated the Yiddish into Latin characters for the use of Christian scholars interested in learning Yiddish (and through Yiddish, Hebrew).
