In 1966, Barbara Kay joined James Meredith's "March Against Fear" in Mississippi. Later she continued to be active in the New Jersey chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality. She recorded many of the details of her civil rights work in interviews conducted in 1979 by the Columbia University Oral History Office.
