Perceptions of War > Guernica
Guernica. Pablo Picasso, 1937.
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid.
There are likely few works of art in the western tradition more closely associated with the horrors of war than Picasso’s monumental work, which memorializes the bombing of the Basque city of Guernica by Axis forces in April 1937, during the Spanish Civil War.
