Understanding comics. Scott McCloud, 1994.

Butler PN6710 .M335 1994g

The book that virtually invented “comics studies theory” is itself written in the form of a comic.  McCloud introduced a number of theoretical constructs, such as how comics are, literally, “read”—how the reader fills in the action that takes place in the gutters between panels.
